Boone's Fish House & Oyster Room is a casual, two story waterfront seafood restaurant on Custom House Wharf in Portland, Maine. The Restaurant is a popular dining place for Portland's visitors and is recognized as the home and possible origin of the baked stuffed Maine Lobster.
The restaurant’s location on Custom House Wharf provides guests with a unique dining experience, an oyster bar, and in the warmer months, beautiful views of Portland Harbor via two outdoor dining decks.
In the winter months, the restaurant's first floor dining room is welcoming with a large stone fire place keeping everyone cozy and warm while they enjoy their fresh seafood dishes and their well crafted specialty cocktails with friends and family.
We dined at Boone's after attending an event in Portland because we wanted to take advantage of being in the area and spend a little time enjoying the surroundings of the magnetic Old Port where we frequented when we lived nearby.
Our plan for visiting Boone's was to enjoy multiple appetizers together and sample some of the restaurant's specialties, but we decided that one of the main dishes looked too interesting to pass up.
We ordered two dishes that we rarely have when we go out for seafood, just to switch things up a bit.
The rustic looking Local Mussel appetizer came steamed with white wine, lemon and garlic along with three slices of french bread for dipping. The sauce was very enjoyable, in fact, the dish would have benefited from being served with more of it. The mussels themselves were quite large in size which is preferable to some people. The serving was very generous and it was obvious that the mussels were incredibly fresh. We would have preferred mussels of a smaller size.
The Fried Oyster Po' Boy is done the classic way at Boone's. After all, it is a fish house and oyster room.😉 The ciabatta bread was well toasted with butter, the oysters we fried perfectly and tasted very fresh.
The cocktail that we enjoyed was a specialty at Boone's called The Desperate Housewife. It was a bright and refreshing drink that complemented the mussels very well. The Desperate Housewife is made with a finely crafted vodka distilled in New Hampshire called Ice Pik Vodka, pomegranate juice, blood orange puree, blood orange bitters, Poma liquer and Prosecco.
We enjoyed our time at Boone's, the staff was helpful and enthusiastic about the menu and their service was polite and friendly. All in all, Boone's is great for a casual get together with friends and we look forward to enjoying the specialty cocktails and beautiful views from their decks at least once next summer.
